A salt lamp is the easiest way to add warmth to a room — but not all lamps are equal. Here's everything we tell our customers before they buy.
What size do you need?
- 2–3 kg: perfect for bedside tables, desks and small bedrooms.
- 3–5 kg: ideal for medium living rooms and offices.
- 5–8 kg+: statement pieces for large rooms, lobbies and studios.
Rule of thumb: one medium lamp per 15–20 square metres for a noticeable glow.
Natural vs shaped
Natural lamps are carved minimally — each is one-of-a-kind with rugged character. Shaped lamps (bowls, pyramids, globes) are more uniform and suit modern interiors. Both glow identically; it's purely aesthetic.
Where to place it
- Bedroom: the warm amber light is ideal before sleep — far gentler than overhead lighting.
- Living room: as an accent light in a dark corner.
- Office/desk: reduces harsh screen contrast in the evening.
- Avoid: bathrooms and uncovered outdoor areas — salt absorbs moisture.
Caring for your lamp
- Leave it on as much as possible — the bulb's warmth keeps moisture away.
- If it "sweats" in humid weather, just wipe it and leave the light on.
- Place a coaster or mat underneath to protect furniture.
- Replace the 15W bulb when it dims — standard E14 fitting.
Spotting fakes
Real Himalayan salt lamps are never perfectly uniform in colour, feel slightly rough, and are surprisingly heavy. If it's suspiciously cheap, perfectly pink and feather-light — it's probably dyed rock salt or resin.
